The Khazana Building Museum is located in a historic 16th-century edifice that originally served as the state treasury during the Qutb Shahi period. Situated near the Golconda Fort, the building itself is a magnificent example of Qutb Shahi architecture. It was converted into a museum by the Department of Archaeology and Museums to preserve and showcase the rich heritage recovered from the Golconda region and other parts of Telangana.
The museum primarily houses an extensive collection of stone sculptures, architectural fragments, and inscriptions. The galleries are divided into Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist sculptures, alongside a significant collection of medieval weaponry and royal memorabilia.
The museum is renowned for its collection of 81 rare sculptures recovered during excavations at the Golconda Fort and surrounding areas. Notable exhibits include a massive granite Nandi and various Hero Stones (Viragal) dating back to the Chalukyan and Kakatiya periods. It also preserves 13th-century stone inscriptions detailing the administrative history of the region.
