Museum Introduction
Established in 2011 as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, "Keralam Museum" is a state-of-the-art interactive institution located in the heart of the capital city. It was designed to transition beyond traditional displays, using professional museological techniques to narrate the evolution of Kerala’s unique cultural identity, from prehistoric settlements to the modern era.
General Collections
The museum features a wide spectrum of exhibits including Neolithic celts, Iron Age burial accompaniments, Roman coins, medieval stone and wood sculptures, and traditional murals. The collection is organized to showcase the lifestyle, trade, and artistic achievements of the Malayali people throughout history.
Unique Historical Collections
Highlights include the Roman Dinari (1st Century CE), providing evidence of Kerala’s ancient maritime trade with Rome; a 14th-century wooden Brahma sculpture; and 17th-century murals from the Pundarikapuram Temple. It also houses a rare Bhoothagana stone sculpture (16th Century) showing the Udara Mukha Gana (face in the stomach).
