Museum Introduction

Located within the historic Castle Kanota (built in 1872), this museum is dedicated to the life and meticulous records of General Amar Singh of Kanota, a nobleman who served in the British Indian Army and the Jaipur State Forces. The museum was established to house his extraordinary archives, which offer an intimate look at the transition from feudal Rajputana to modern India through the lens of one of history’s most prolific diarists.

General Collections

The collection features a vast array of personal effects belonging to the Kanota family, including period furniture, Edwardian-era clothing, sporting trophies (Polo), and a significant collection of vintage weaponry. The library holds over 3,000 rare books and a substantial collection of colonial-era photographs.

Unique Historical Collections

The centerpiece of the museum is the Amar Singh Diaries one of the world's longest-running continuous diaries, spanning 89 volumes from 1898 to 1942. Written in English, these diaries provide a daily account of life, military service, and social customs for over 44 years. The museum also houses his unique collection of handwritten recipe books, which preserve the culinary heritage of the Thikana of Kanota.
