Kanchi Kudil is a 90-year-old ancestral house that has been meticulously preserved to showcase the traditional lifestyle and culture of a joint family in Kanchipuram. Born from a desire to turn a private property into a cultural landmark, it provides tourists with a rare glimpse into the "soul" of the city its people and their homes complementing the grand temple architecture for which the town is famous.
The museum replicates a functional 20th-century agricultural household. The collection includes vintage furniture, household utensils, and distinct living quarters such as the "Thinnai" (outer veranda), the master's room, the ladies' room, and a traditional kitchen.
Features original Lakhauri-style architecture with an open central courtyard (Thotti) designed for natural ventilation and light. It also houses a collection of century-old pillars rescued from historic houses and an exhibition of "Golu" dolls typically displayed during the Navaratri festival.
