Museum Introduction

Located within the premises of Kalaimagal Kalvi Nilayam, a premier girls' educational institution in Erode founded in 1945, this museum complex consists of two distinct units: the Coin Museum and the Natural History/General Museum. Established to provide "edutainment" and hands-on learning, it is one of the few schools in Asia to maintain meticulously curated professional-grade museums. The Coin Museum was specifically inaugurated on December 19, 1998, to commemorate the founder’s birth centenary.

General Collections

The collection is vast and varied, spanning ancient coins, local historical artifacts, and botanical specimens. It includes a dedicated section for regional art and traditions, featuring inscriptions and handicrafts specific to the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu.

Unique Historical Collections

The Coin Museum features a rare assembly of Sangam age coins, as well as currency from the Chera, Chola, and Pandya dynasties. It also houses East India Company coins, Mughal coinage, and a comprehensive collection of Indian currency before and after Independence. Another unique feature is the collection of rare palm-leaf manuscripts and 19th-century educational diaries used by the institution's founders.
