The Government Museum, Basavakalyan is an archaeological site museum located adjacent to the historic Basavakalyana Fort in Bidar district, Karnataka. Managed by the State Government, it was established to house and protect the vast quantity of antiquities unearthed from the fort and its surrounding regions, which served as the imperial capital of the Western Chalukyas and Kalachuris.
The museum primarily contains stone sculptures, hero stones (veeragals), and architectural members. The collection is heavily focused on religious iconography, including Hindu and Jain deities, recovered from the 10th to 12th-century ruins of the Kalyana Chalukya empire.
Jain Idols: A significant and distinct collection of 10th and 11th-century Jain Tirthankara statues and images, reflecting the flourishing of Jainism under the early Chalukyan rulers. Chalukyan Architectural Fragments: Intricately carved stone pillars and friezes that demonstrate the transition of the Later Chalukyan (Kalyani) architectural style.
