Museum Introduction

Opened to the public on June 16, 2016, the Government Museum in Bundi is established within the historical Sukh Mahal complex. The site, built in the late 18th century by Rao Raja Vishnu Singh, is famously known for hosting Rudyard Kipling. The museum was created to showcase the regional archaeological finds and the distinctive artistic heritage of the Hadoti region.

General Collections

The museum houses a significant collection of stone sculptures, miniature paintings, and a dedicated arms gallery. It focuses on artifacts recovered from archaeological excavations across Bundi district, alongside traditional artworks belonging to the celebrated Bundi and Kota schools of painting.

Unique Historical Collections

The museum is uniquely housed in the same summer palace where Rudyard Kipling stayed and drew inspiration for his writings on Bundi. Hadoti Sculptures: A specialized collection of 8th to 12th-century sculptures, including notable figures of ascetic Parvati and various deities. Bundi School Miniatures: Rare 18th and 19th-century paintings known for their lush landscapes and distinct color palettes.
