Established in 1940 by Maharaja Tej Singh, the Alwar Museum is housed on the upper floors of the majestic City Palace (Vinay Vilas Mahal) in Alwar, Rajasthan. The museum preserves the private collection of the Naruka clan of Alwar, showcasing a fusion of Mughal and Rajput artistic traditions.
The collection is organized into four galleries containing over 9,700 coins, 2,700 weapons, and numerous sculptures. It features a vast array of royal costumes, ivory work, musical instruments, taxidermy, and a significant library of medieval manuscripts in Persian, Sanskrit, and Urdu.
A world-renowned 13th-century manuscript of Sheikh Saadi’s "Gulistan" (Rose Garden), heavily illustrated with gold and vibrant colors; its production cost roughly one lakh rupees at the time. Royal Armory: A distinctive collection of personal weapons belonging to Mughal Emperors Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan, including a gold-wrapped sword belonging to Akbar.
