Established in 1997, the Government Freedom Struggle Museum is located within the Shaheed Smarak (Martyr’s Memorial) compound in Meerut. The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting cultural property and historical evidence related to India's glorious past, with a primary focus on the rebellion of 1857.
The collection includes detailed paintings, reliefs, and dioramas depicting key episodes of the 1857 uprising. It also houses an extensive array of postal stamps, memorial coins, copper plates, original photographs of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and archaeological remains from the Meerut region spanning from the Kushana to the Mughal periods.
The museum holds a significant collection of nearly 1,500 original documents from the Lucknow archives, including trial records and death sentences of villagers who participated in the 1857 revolt, providing unique documentary evidence of local resistance.
