Founded by Victor Hugo Gomes in 2009, Goa Chitra is a private ethnographic museum located in Benaulim, South Goa. It is dedicated to preserving Goa's traditional lifestyle and agrarian heritage, showcasing the evolution of indigenous technology and craftsmanship. The museum structure itself is built using recycled materials from over 300 demolished traditional Goan houses.
A vast collection of over 4,000 artifacts including traditional farming implements, local pottery, ancient musical instruments, religious altars, and domestic utensils. It features three distinct sections: Goa Chitra (ethnographic), Goa Chakra (transport), and Goa Cruti (colonial history).
An extensive collection of over 80 ancient Indian modes of transport (Goa Chakra), including unique carts, carriages, and palanquins sourced from across India, and a rare collection of pre-colonial agrarian tools
