Museum Introduction

Formed in 1984 by the merger of two historic sites, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, chaired by the Prime Minister of India. It comprises two distinct campuses in New Delhi: Gandhi Smriti (at 5 Tees January Marg), the site of Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom, and Gandhi Darshan (at Rajghat), a 36-acre educational and exhibition complex.

General Collections

The Samiti maintains a vast repository including over 6,000 original photographs, personal relics, and the Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum. The collection spans Gandhi's last 144 days at Birla House, the history of the Satyagraha movements, and a library with approximately 60,000 volumes. Gandhi Darshan features large-scale pavilions focused on his global vision and social reforms.
