Museum Introduction

Established in 1976, the District Museum at Pillalamarri is located within the famous 800-year-old banyan tree complex near Mahbubnagar. It was primarily created to house and protect historical artifacts and temple remains salvaged from various submerged areas of the Krishna River valley.

General Collections

The museum features a significant collection of stone sculptures dating from the 6th to the 16th century AD. Its two main sections include a sculptural gallery and the Jurala Pavilion, which displays prehistoric tools, coins, and pottery retrieved during excavations in the Jurala project area.

Unique Historical Collections

Relocated Temples: The complex houses the 16th-century Sri Rajarajeswara Temple, which was meticulously dismantled and relocated from Erladinne village in 1981 to save it from the Srisailam reservoir submersion. Megalithic Sarcophagi: Rare terracotta coffins from the Iron Age found in the Mahbubnagar region.
