Established on March 16, 1986, the District Museum Tezpur is a prominent state museum in Assam. It is housed in the historic colonial-era Dak-Bungalow, which was built in 1881 and serves as a major center for preserving the archaeological and ethnological heritage of the Sonitpur district.
The museum boasts a collection of over 600 artifacts, including stone and wooden sculptures, ancient inscriptions, and traditional textiles. It also features a wide variety of manuscripts, coins, and cultural objects from the Satra institutions.
Ahom Cannons: Two massive iron cannons from the Ahom period are displayed at the entrance. Shalastambha Dynastic Ruins: Rare 9th-10th century stone architectural members and sculptures salvaged from local ruins. Historic Dak-Bungalow: The museum is uniquely situated within an 1881 British-era heritage building.
