Established in 1989, the museum is located within Venkat Bhawan, a historic palace completed in 1907. It was created to preserve and showcase the vast archaeological wealth of the Rewa division, featuring over 460 registered artifacts that chronicle the region's history from the Stone Age to the modern era.
The collection is spread across two floors and includes stone sculptures, copper and silver coins, traditional paintings, and wooden furniture. It also features a natural history section with stuffed animals and a library containing rare historical texts.
Shaiva & Vaishnava Sculptures: A significant array of 10th and 11th-century idols representing various sects of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Secret Tunnel: The museum building contains a legendary secret tunnel that historically connected Venkat Bhawan to the Rewa Fort (currently restricted for public entry).
