The museum was established by the District Archaeology Association and officially inaugurated in its current dedicated building on August 11, 2008. It is designed to document the evolution of the Rajnandgaon princely state and the broader archaeological landscape of the central plains of Chhattisgarh.
The collection is organized into five thematic galleries: Entrance, Statue, Archaeology, Arms, and Tribal/Folk Arts. It bridges the gap between the ancient era and the living traditions of local tribes.
Ancient Shiv Mandir Replica: A high-quality plaster cast of the 13th-century Gandai Shiva Temple is featured prominently in the entrance. Princely Weapons: An exclusive gallery dedicated to the armaments used by the rulers of the Rajnandgaon Princely State.
