Established in 1997 by Dr. Nand Kishore Sharma, the museum is located on Gadi Sagar Road. It was founded to showcase the rich cultural tapestry of Jaisalmer, focusing on the everyday lives, arts, and traditions of the desert people that are often overshadowed by royal military history.
The collection includes traditional musical instruments, ethnic jewelry, historical textiles, and old kitchen utensils. It also features hunting gear, armor, and a significant display of ancient and medieval fossils found in the Thar region.
Kathputli (Puppetry) Heritage: The center is uniquely dedicated to preserving the 100-year-old traditional Rajasthani puppet art form. It also houses a rare opium mixing box known as 'Karal' and a Phad scroll painting depicting the epic of the folk hero Pabuji.
