Opened to the public in 1998, this museum was established by the ASI to house artifacts from the ancient mound of Ropar. Ropar is historically significant as the first Harappan site excavated in Independent India. The museum showcases a continuous cultural sequence spanning from the Harappan era to the medieval period.
The collection includes antiquities from the Harappan, Painted Grey Ware, Saka, Kushana, and Gupta periods. It features an extensive display of pottery, terracotta figurines, beads, copper implements, and stone tools recovered from the adjacent excavation mounds.
Known for its rare steatite seals with Harappan scripts and a collection of Bara Culture pottery, which predates and overlaps with the Harappan phase. It also contains evidence of a unique burial practice where a dog was buried with its master, found during the 1952–55 excavations.
