Established in 1969 to mark the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth, the Gandhi Centenary Museum in Karimnagar, Telangana, is a prominent regional archaeological museum. Despite its name, it is not a specialized Gandhian museum; rather, it functions as a primary repository for the cultural and historical heritage of the Karimnagar district.
The museum houses a diverse collection of over 1,000 artifacts, including prehistoric stone tools, terracotta figurines, coins, and weapons. The exhibits are sourced primarily from regional excavations at significant archaeological sites such as Peddabankur, Dhulikatta, and Kotilingala.
Ancient Fossils: Includes fossils dating back 2.5 million years. Satavahana Relics: Notable for a massive 1st-century CE brick (56x27x7 cm) and various Satavahana-era household items. Kakatiya Inscriptions: A 12th-century stone inscription by a minister of Rudradeva and a copper plate from the reign of Rani Rudrama. Arms & Armor: Weapons and an 18th-century Panchaloha cannon from the Qutub Shahi and Asaf Jahi dynasties.
