Inaugurated in 2015, the Bihar Museum was built to complement the older Patna Museum. While the Patna Museum now focuses on archaeological artifacts, the Bihar Museum is designed as a "discovery center" with interactive galleries that tell the story of the land where the foundations of Indian democracy, religion, and empire-building were laid.
The museum spans over 5.3 hectares and includes galleries dedicated to Pre-history, Ancient India (Mauryan to Gupta periods), Regional Art, Historical Art, and the Diaspora. It features state-of-the-art climate control for its rare bronze and stone collections.
Didarganj Yakshi: The museum’s crowning jewel is the Didarganj Yakshi, a 3rd-century BCE life-sized sandstone statue representing the pinnacle of Mauryan polish and aesthetics. It also houses an incredible collection of Kurkihar Bronzes (9th–12th century).
