Museum Introduction

Opened on September 14, 1908, it is one of the oldest museums in Northern India. It was established at the initiative of Dr. J. Ph. Vogel to safeguard the rare artifacts of Chamba. The museum serves as a repository for the region's unique cultural identity, particularly the Chamba school of art.

General Collections

The museum houses a diverse range of exhibits, including stone inscriptions, bronze statues, traditional costumes, wood carvings, and jewelry. It is particularly noted for its extensive collection of miniatures and textiles.

Unique Historical Collections

Pahari Miniatures & Chamba Rumals: The museum is globally renowned for its original Basohli and Guler-Chamba style miniature paintings. It also preserves the world’s finest collection of Chamba Rumals—intricately embroidered handkerchiefs known as "needle-paintings" that depict scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
